This feature is available in 3ds Max 8 and higher
After attempting to save the scene file, the crash handler now allows MAXScript to attempt to save modified open script windows.
For each modified open script window, '_recover' is appended to the the script file name and the user is asked whether to save the file.
The file will be saved in the directory of the original script.
The full path is shown in the Yes/No message box that asks the user whether they want to save the file.
If the modified open script window contains a script that was not loaded from or previously saved to disk, the file name 'untitled_#_recover.ms' is used, where '#' in an integer starting with 0 and increasing for each such file. These files are saved in the scripts directory.
